IM 70.3 World Championships

It may be November, but the goalspecific athletes still continue to inspire myself and Ade with achieving incredibly tough goals. The World Championships at Marbella last weekend was an incredibly tough course, with a hard choppy swim, over 1700m of climbing on the bike, and a run with definitely a few bits of elevation as well. However, despite crashing less than 3months ago, breaking an elbow and needing surgery, Katherine sensibly and consistently built her strength and fitness back to a position where we felt she was able to take on the challenge of this course. Any athlete out there who has come back from a nasty injury can certainly empathize with the intense anxiety lining up at the start line, not knowing whether the fitness is there, or how safe you are going to feel on a bike after falling, and even more challenging when the bike is hilly, with long descents, which had a tricky wind to manage as well. This is where putting into place process goals, to break down that challenge, and sustain focus throughout the event can really help. Katherine absolutely nailed it, she raced sensibly, and actually achieved over and beyond what her pre race prediction was. This was an immense achievement in such a short period of time, and her determination and sensible rehabilitation resulted in a great day out. It was a pleasure to be out there with you on a challenging and rewarding day.
